  1. sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install kodi

    sudo nano /usr/local/bin/startkodi

    TYPE CTRL=o to save
    Type CTRL=x to quit

    NOW RUN – sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/startkodi

    Navigate to /usr/local/bin/startkodi you can copy and paste the file to the desk top and run it like it is, but i want to make it look good,
    so we are going to make a executable dektop shortcut.

    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=KODI
    Comment=KODI MEDIA CENTER
    Exec=/usr/local/bin/startkodi
    Icon=/usr/share/kodi/media/icon256x256.png
    Terminal=false
    Type=Application
    Categories=Sound;Video;
    StartupNotify=true

    • Mine stops after sudo nano /pi/local/bin/startkodi. After I paste the script, press Ctrl O, then Enter, it shows [Error writing /pi/local/bin/startkodi: No such file or directory]. Know what I am doing wrong?

  2. hi followed your instructions to the detail and when i click the newly made icon Kodi starts up and freezes. How do i remove Kodi and Reinstall it?

  3. As someone with no command skills or idea how Linux file systems work, THANK YOU! This was very informative for me.
    I am up and running.

  4. I can run through the update no problem, but when I try to sudo apt-get install Kodi, it says it can’t be found. What gives?

  5. Anyone know how to get kodi to autostart at boot? I tried editing the .bashrc file but it renders my terminal useless.

    Ideally I want the desktop file created in the video. Reason being is because I run kodi in the living room for my family but do all the terminal stuff via ssh/vnc.

  6. fine and far out that you have an exit fix… but do you have a starting fix? when i run kodi on my brand new raspberry pi 3… i get a black screen but i can press left and right arrows on keyboard and hear the menu sounds

  7. I’m on Raspbian, I followed your script. I still get a black screen but not when exiting but if I leave it unattended for about a minute it turns off my display. I’m using 7 inch display
